The president of All India Mahila Congress Alka Lamba has said that if elected to power the Congress party will ensure that the benefit of the 33 per cent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State assemblies is immediately provided. She said that the Mahila Congress has advocated that more and more tickets are given to the women candidates in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and it has sent names of the women for more than 50 per cent constituencies to the screening committee. She said that though the Modi government has brought and passed the women reservation bill but has deferred its implementation.
Interacting with the media person at the headquarters of the State Congress here on Thursday Lamba said the Mahila Congress is working for economic and political empowerment of the women in the country. She said that the former president of Congress party Rahul Gandhi is on a Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. In the Yatra he has taken up the issues of injustice to farmers, youth, women and labourers. She said that the Mahila Congress will also start Nari Nyay Yatras in every district of the state. Lamba said that the Modi government had promised to double the income of farmers and pass a law on MSP but it has failed. She said that instead of providing justice to the farmers the government is bombarding teargas shells on farmers by using drones. Lamba said that the Congress party has promised that it will give guarantee on MSP within 100 days of coming to power and waive off the loans of the farmers. She said unemployment is at its peak in the country during the rule of the party which has promised to provide two crore employment every year.
Lamba said that the Congress party favours caste census in the country which will ensure equal rights on the resources of the nation. She said that crime against women is increasing in the country and BJP leaders are involved in the cases of rape and exploitation of women. Lamba said that the report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) suggests that 10 lakh women have gone missing in the last one year. She said that Uttarakhand which is called as Devbhoomi now holds the dubious distinction of being the number one State among the Himalayan states in crime against women. Launching an attack on the BJP government, Lamba said that the recent action of the Income Tax (IT) department on freezing of bank accounts of the Congress party is an example of how the agencies are being used against the opposition.
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara and the president of Uttarakhand Mahila Congress Jyoti Rautela were also present on the occasion.
