In latest news from Doon, while the BJP has unveiled names of three candidates for the five seats and is likely to announce the names of the remaining two in a couple of days, things in the Congress are still mired in speculative murkiness. As per the Congress insiders, the screening committee has shortlisted 16 out of 43 aspirants for tickets and the party’s election committee would take the final call. They said that latest by mid-March, the candidates’ list would be unveiled.
Political watchers say that things are held up owning to the State party stalwarts like Yashpal Arya and Pritam Singh fighting shy of contesting. The Congress insiders said that despite the reluctance of the party seniors to contest, the shortlisted panel includes their names and it was left to the party brass to fix things.
