The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department distributed 109 certificates of adjustment from mini Anganwadi workers to Anganwadi workers. Speaking on the occasion, the WECD minister Rekha Arya expressed her gratitude towards the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for upgrading all mini Anganwadi centres in the country to full-fledged Anganwadis. This decision has led to the creation of new employment opportunities for 5,115 women in Uttarakhand. She further said that chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has made a landmark decision to appoint the women working in all 5,115 mini centres of Uttarakhand as Anganwadi workers. This decision is a remarkable step towards women empowerment, recognising the contributions of the mini Anganwadi workers in implementing Anganwadi and other schemes for women and children in remote areas, she said.
She further emphasised that true women empowerment is exemplified by a woman cooking in the kitchen who can aspire to hold leadership positions in the Assembly and Lok Sabha. The 30 per cent reservation in State services for women is a commendable initiative by the chief minister, advancing the cause of women empowerment, she said.
MLA Khajan Dass appreciated the chief minister and the WECD minister for their efforts for promoting women empowerment in Uttarakhand. He praised the high-achieving girls working towards women’s welfare and acknowledged the performers of cultural programmes. He further expressed confidence that the Anganwadi workers will overcome challenges in their new roles with dedication. The State government is also granting additional honorarium to Anganwadi workers as an appreciation of their commitment, he said.
