The Directorate of Panchayati Raj will soon provide vacuum-based garbage suction machines in every district of the State. Providing the information, the Panchayati Raj director Nidhi Yadav stated that the department is planning to provide a vacuum-based machine to collect garbage in every district to enable easier waste collection. The Central government has ordered the Panchayati Raj department to ensure that every district has access to the vacuum-based garbage machine, she added.
Commenting about the working process of the machine, she said that every district in the State will receive 13 machines that will collect garbage from streets and roads. The garbage collected in these machines will be sent to a cluster for segregation. The Panchayati Raj department will establish a cluster for dumping the garbage. She further said that the plastic waste will be sent for recycling to the recently established recycling plant at Haridwar after it has been segregated and sent through a compactor.
Yadav said that a vacuum machine has a capacity of 300 litres of garbage. The implementation process has started with the first phase having been completed. The second phase which involves selecting the machine as well as conducting trials, is currently underway. It is expected that the project will be fully implemented in the State by the end of the month, she added.
Yadav further said that a sum of about Rs five crore has been approved for the machine project. The vacuum garbage suction machine will be beneficial during the upcoming Char Dham Yatra in the State. Speaking about the department’s preparations for the Yatra, she said that every year, the district Panchayat officials of Tehri, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Haridwar and Chamoili are directed to oversee the Yatra route and ensure that no plastic waste is present and the toilets for the pilgrims should be clean.
