Rain & hail hit Doon and other places, more forecast in State today

People in the provisional State capital Dehradun and some other parts of the State woke up to hail and gusty winds along with light rain in the wee hours on Saturday. However, the change in weather did not bring down the temperature which was a few degrees above normal in Dehradun and other places. Similar weather is expected on Sunday with the State meteorological centre forecasting light to moderate rain/thunderstorms likely to occur at a few places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts and very light to light rain/thunderstorms likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri Almora, Nainital and Champawat districts on Sunday.
The meteorological centre has also issued a warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/ hail/ gusty winds (30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous districts of the State today. Light to moderate snowfall is also likely to occur in places situated at altitudes of 4,000 metres and above in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts today. Apart from this, dry weather will prevail in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts.
Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky. Light rain/ thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty wind (30-40 kmph) are likely to occur in some areas towards night. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 32 degrees Celsius and 16 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various places on Saturday were 32.9 degrees Celsius and 18.2 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 35.8 degrees Celsius and 20.5 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 22.5 degrees Celsius and 10.1 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 20 degrees Celsius and 8.3 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. There was 16 millimetres rain in Kaladhungi, 16 millimetres in Auli, 13 millimetres in Chakrata, 1.4 millimetres in New Tehri and a millimetre in Dehradun on Saturday.
