Two men arrested with 51 liquor boxes

The police on Monday arrested two men with 51 boxes of illicit English liquor worth over Rs five lakh in Dehradun’s Rajpur area. They both were arrested during the intensive checking of the police being conducted regularly in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He said that all police stations in- charges have been directed to ensure to take effective action to prevent the smuggling of drugs, alcohol and money in their respective areas. During the checking campaign in the Rajpur area, the police found two men identified as Pawan Raghav (35) and Dayanand Sharma (33) in a vacant plot near Anshal Green Valley with 51 boxes of illicit English liquor. Raghav had 37 boxes in his possession while Sharma had 14 boxes. They had reportedly met at the spot to smuggle liquor. They both live in the Bapu Nagar Vivek Vihar colony of Rajpur. The SSP said that the police arrested both accused and registered a case against them at Rajpur police station under section 60/ 72 of the Excise Act. The police are investigating who they both were planning to smuggle those liquor boxes, he added.
