Four people lost their lives when their car fell into a river in Bageshwar district early on Sunday morning. The car with a Delhi number plate fell about 300 metres down the road into the river, the Bageshwar Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO) Kailash Negi said. He informed that the police along with fire services and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rushed to the spot to conduct a search and rescue operation soon after locals informed them about the accident. Negi said that the accident happened on the Balighat-Dharamghar motor road when the driver lost control over the car. The authorities conducted a search operation and took considerable time to retrieve the bodies from the river. The deceased have been identified as Kamal Prasad (26), Neeraj Kumar (25), Deepak Arya (22) and Kailash Ram (24). The SHO said that Neeraj and Deepak were brothers. The police also found some Puja materials in their car. It appeared that the men were going towards the river to get the holy water of the Sarayu to conduct Puja on the occasion of Navratri. The police found in the initial inquiry that the driver allegedly fell asleep due to which he lost control over the car and it fell into the river. However, nothing can be said with certainty right now. The police have sent the bodies for postmortem and are investigating the case. The families will get the bodies after the police complete all legal proceedings, the SHO added.
