The low voter turnout in Uttarakhand has dashed the hopes of the Election Commission which had taken a target of 75 per cent voter turnout for the Lok Sabha elections-2024.
The less than expected turnout has also baffled the political parties which have now started the micro level analysis of the voter turnout. The data of the EC shows that barring Champawat district, the voting percentage in all the districts of the State has decreased in comparison to the LS elections of 2019. In Uttarkashi 52.3 per cent turnout was reported which is much less than 60.43 per cent reported in 2019. Similarly 49.36 and 54.02 per cent turnout was reported in Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts respectively. In Tehri district only 40.93 per cent turnout was reported this time as compared to 48.55 per cent in 2019. In Dehradun district 53.78 per cent turnout was reported which is less than the 59.78 per cent turnout reported in 2019. In Haridwar district 61.34 per cent turnout was reported which is 10 per cent less than 2019. In Pauri district 46.42 per cent turnout was reported. The turnout in Pithoragarh and Bageshwar was 52.01 and 57.19 per cent respectively. The data further shows that Almora reported only 40.87 per cent turnout while 47.81 per cent turnout was reported here in 2019. In Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts 56.02 and 61.5 per cent voter turnout was reported on Friday while in 2019, 63.15 and 67.77 per cent turnout respectively was reported in these districts.
