USERC hosts expert lecture on plastic on Earth Day

The Uttarakhand Science Education and Research Centre (USERC) organised an online expert lecture on the theme of earth and plastic on Monday, marking the observance of Earth Day.
Presiding over the programme, the director USERC Anita Rawat said that India has had a tradition of preserving the five elements of its environment since ancient times and the people here consider the earth as mother. She urged all to take forward the tradition of knowledge and science while pledging for the protection of the earth.
University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) professor Bhawna Yadav Lamba explained in detail the nature and types of plastic, sources of plastic in the environment, problem and solution of plastic and making diesel from plastic.
While conducting the programme, USERC scientist Bhavtosh Sharma said that along with solid waste management, there is a need to make collective efforts with serious thinking on the issues of proper scientific management of plastic, water conservation and soil conservation. Another USERC scientist Om Prakash Nautiyal urged everyone to conserve energy, reduce the use of plastic and increase the use of solar energy. More than 150 teachers and students from all the districts of the State attended the programme.
