Considering the drinking water scarcity in several areas of the Dehradun district, the district magistrate Sonika has directed the officials to mark the establishments wasting potable water. Several areas are affected due to the scarcity of potable water in many parts of the district. With the rise in temperature in the past two weeks, the authorities have observed drinking water issues in about 200 areas under the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD).
The DM held a meeting on Tuesday with officials concerned to address this issue which is getting worse every week. Stating that many people continue to waste water despite critical water issues, she directed the officials of Jal Sansthan and MCD to mark all such establishments to prevent the wastage and misuse of water across the city. She directed them to submit a report of all such establishments soon at her office. She also directed the Jal Sansthan to assess the situation of the ground water level in the district and work on a concrete action plan for the conservation of water sources. Sonika said that all the departments concerned must take all possible measures at their level to ensure the situation does not get worse regarding the scarcity of potable water.
The officials concerned should raise awareness among people regarding water management and make a plan to act against those who have been consistently wasting water, she added. Last week, the Nainital DM Vandana Singh also restricted the use of potable water by commercial establishments for washing and cleaning due to the scarcity of potable water in Haldwani.
