‘Brand Bollywood Downunder’ screened at Raj Bhawan

Filmmaker Anupam Sharma’s documentary film ‘Brand Bollywood Downunder’ was screened at Raj Bhawan on Tuesday.
Dehradun native Sharma is a noted filmmaker based in Australia. Speaking as the chief guest after the screening of the film, the governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh said that films play an important role in boosting national unity, a sense of nationalism, promotion of culture and traditions, social harmony and social change. Indian cinema has also helped promote values such as love and social harmony. He said that the influence of Indian cinema is not restricted to India alone as the films made here are popular around the world. Recently, while on a trip to Central Asia, he witnessed that filmmaker Raj Kapoor is still popular there, as is the iconic song, “Awaara Hoon”, the governor recalled.
He added that the Uttarakhand government is making sincere efforts to promote film tourism in the State and generate maximum employment opportunities through the film industry. He also praised the latest film policy of the State government while also appreciating the work of Information director general Banshidhar Tiwari and Information joint director Nitin Upadhyaya in formulation of the policy.
Sharma also expressed his views on the occasion. ‘Brand Bollywood Downunder’ is the story of Bollywood’s growth in Australia and around the world, revealing the industry’s inner workings on a global scale, while celebrating Indian cinema. It also features interviews with icons of Hindi cinema along with rare behind the scenes of movie stars filming at picturesque locations in Australia.
