Thousands throng Gangotri, Yamunotri on reopening of temples

The portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines were opened ceremonially with religious rituals on Friday. Thousands of pilgrims from different parts of the country and abroad witnessed the ceremonial opening of the portals at the places of origin of holy Ganga and Yamuna.
The pilgrims were showered with floral petals by the helicopters in these shrines.
The Doli, carrying the ceremonial idol of goddess Yamuna, started the journey from its winter abode in Kharsali at 6:29 AM on the day. After the arrival of the Doli, the portals of Yamunotri were opened amid chanting of Vedic hymns at 10:29 AM. More than 6,000 pilgrims were present on the occasion. The chairperson of Yamunotri temple committee Mukesh Ramola, ADG, Vigilance, V Murugesan and others were also present on the occasion.
The Doli bearing the ceremonial idol of Goddess Ganga arrived amid religious fervour at Gangotri on the day. The portals of Gangotri shrine were opened at 12:25 PM amid rituals and prayers.
A band of Jammu and Kashmir light infantry enthralled the pilgrims with their musical compositions at the time of the opening of the portals. The regiment had made an arrangement of Langar for the pilgrims on the occasion.
The additional director general of police (Law and Order) AP Anshuman, district magistrate of Uttarkashi Meharban Singh Bisht, superintendent of police Arpan Yaduwanshi, chief development officer Jai Kishan, Gangotri MLA Suresh Chauhan, district Panchayat president Deepak Bijalwan and others were present on the occasion.
