Mercury nears 40°C in Doon, rain & thunderstorms likely in seven districts today

The maximum temperature rose four degrees above normal to reach close to 40 degrees Celsius in Dehradun on Thursday. The weather is expected to remain similar here on Friday though rain and thunderstorms may be witnessed in some parts of the State. The State meteorological centre has forecast that very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Dehradun, Champawat and Pithoragarh districts today. Dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts. The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely to occur at isolated places in the above-mentioned districts on Friday.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky today. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 39 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts on Thursday were 39.2 degrees Celsius and 21.6 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 39 degrees Celsius and 19 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 27 degrees Celsius and 12.6 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 28.2 degrees Celsius and 12.2 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
