The Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that promising reservation on religious lines to Muslims has shown the real anti-Hindu face of the Congress and other members of the INDIA bloc. The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt welcomed the decision of the Calcutta High Court staying the quota for Muslims in West Bengal. Stating that a religion-based quota exposes the real anti-Hindu face of the Congress and INDIA bloc members, he said West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s government deciding to reject this order is the height of appeasement. He said that the local Congress leaders should get away from their high command and alliance soon otherwise the people will never forgive them.Reacting to the decision of the Calcutta HC, Bhatt said that the TMC government in West Bengal had in 2011 and 2022 snatched the rights of the Other Backward Classes and accorded the same to members of the Muslim community. “The Mamata government crossed the height of appeasement by benefitting Muslims, especially those who form its party cadre, with place under an OBC sub category. They granted unconstitutional OBC reservation to about five lakh people during this period. Out of the 77 groups granted this benefit, 71 were from the Muslim community. This is the reason why the HC cancelled the OBC reservation granted on religious basis,” Bhatt said. He further alleged that the Congress and other parties in the INDIA bloc have been carrying forward the agenda of the Muslim League in their governments.
