The Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital administration is planning various steps to address the issues arising from the surge in patient numbers. This decision was prompted by a recent incident involving two young women who engaged in a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical altercation while waiting in line at the hospital billing counter. Stating this, deputy medical superintendent of GDMC hospital Dr Dhananjay Dobhal said that the patient numbers at the hospital have been steadily rising over time, with an average increase of 800 patients compared to the previous year 2023. He attributed this rise in patient numbers to advancements in technology, seasonal variations and other contributing factors..
Additionally, he said that the administration has made the decision to implement various measures to address the increasing issues at the hospital, particularly for better crowd management. One adjustment includes increasing the current number of billing counters from four to five due to the rising crowd. Further, as the registration counter is more active during morning OPD hours than billing, they have decided to temporarily convert a billing counter into a registration counter during those specific morning hours, he added.
Further, he stated that the administration has also noted that the online registration system, initially considered for effective crowd management at the hospital, was not properly executed. Consequently, the administration has initiated active measures to improve the online registration process by implementing scanning share. This will allow patients to register easily. Additionally, in order to encourage more patients to use online registration, a special counter dedicated to scanning share will be set up at the hospital premises, he said.
