The additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) court in Dehradun rejected the bail application of Anil Kumar Gupta (51) and Ajay Kumar Gupta (58), also known as the Gupta brothers during their bail hearing on Monday. The court had earlier sent them to jail in judicial custody for 14 days on May 25 for allegedly abetting the suicide of the builder Satendra Singh Sahni. He committed suicide on May 24 by jumping off from the eighth floor of a building in the Rajpur Road area of Dehradun. He was taken to the Max Hospital but died during the treatment. His son Ranveer Singh Sahni presented a suicide note allegedly written by his father before his death. According to the officials, he mentioned the names of both accused in his suicide note and claimed that they had been harassing, threatening and blackmailing him. They were also allegedly threatening to put Sahni and his son-in-law in jail in a false criminal case. Sahni had also registered a complaint against both accused at the police station which was under investigation by the superintendent of police of Dehradun. The accused were also allegedly harassing Sahni through the Saharanpur police. The police registered an FIR against the accused on the basis of the suicide note on Friday and arrested them the same day under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code. The court on Monday rejected the bail of the duo. They are currently kept in the Suddhowala jail of Dehradun. Some rumours were making rounds on the weekend that the Gupta duo was getting the VIP treatment in the jail. Considering this, the Dehradun district magistrate Sonika and the senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh conducted a surprise inspection late on Sunday. They refuted all such claims and stated that everything has been carried out there as per the rules.
