10 homes destroyed, four damaged in fire in U’kashi village

Ten homes were destroyed and four homes were partially damaged in a fire in the Salara village of Mori block in Uttarkashi district on Monday. Six villagers were injured while extinguishing the fire. The fire was brought under control after much effort. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed concern at the incident and directed the local administration to ensure effective relief measures.
According to the report sent by the Mori Tehsildar to the Uttarkashi district magistrate, information was received at 11 AM about a fire starting in the home of one Anil Singh due to a short circuit. The fire soon spread and ended up destroying 10 homes and partially damaging four homes. The villagers managed to bring the fire under control. Six villagers suffered burns during their efforts to bring the fire under control. One of the injured identified as Yamraj Thapa was sent to the community health centre in Mori for primary treatment while the other injured are being treated in the village. No other damage to human or animal life has been reported from the fire in the village. Officials of the local administration, Fire Service, State Disaster Response Force, Police, Forest department and Animal Husbandry department are present in the village. The authorities have issued Rs 5,000 each as immediate relief to the 22 families affected by the conflagration. The affected families have also been provided with canvas for temporary shelter and woollen blankets. Since the village is accessible after covering about eight kilometres on foot, the administration had also requested the Indian Air Force to keep a helicopter ready in case it was needed to douse the fire.
