The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Wednesday deferred its demolition drive on the Rispana river bed in the Barighat area to remove encroachments constructed after 2016. The officials said that the drive will be resumed on Thursday morning. The corporation along with the police started demolishing the encroachments built after 2016 on Monday as per the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
The corporation had marked 525 encroachments out of which 89 were constructed on MCD land, 415 on the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) land and 12 on the land belonging to the Mussoorie Nagar Palika. The MCD has started acting against 75 encroachments after an analysis of objections raised against demolition by the slum dwellers. The corporation has so far demolished over 60 encroachments so far including eight houses. Meanwhile, the MDDA has also started analysing the objections raised against their notices that were issued eight days ago.
The officials informed that the MDDA has received about 300 objections from slum dwellers against the demolition process of structures built after 2016. The officials are currently analysing these objections after which, MDDA will possibly start the demolition process this weekend or the next week. The officials informed that the authorities need to submit an action report on the marked encroachments to NGT by June 30 considering which, all departments and agencies concerned are expected to complete their respective tasks on time.
