The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sunday for swift action against agents and travel agencies providing fake registrations of pilgrims for Char Dham temples. The team will work under the supervision of the superintendent of police (Rural) Lokjeet Singh for speedy and successful legal disposal of all cases registered in Rishikesh or Vikasnagar police stations regarding fake registrations during Char Dham Yatra. The SSP stated that the team comprises seven police personnel who will conduct an impartial investigation and ensure that all the culprits are brought to justice, regardless of where they carried out the fake registration scam. The Dehradun police have registered a total of 41 cases against travel agencies and agents for fake registrations of pilgrims since the commencement of the Char Dham Yatra in the State on May 10-12. The police have caught eight accused so far from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haridwar. Singh further said that these agents charge lakhs of rupees for the fake registration from pilgrims who belong to different parts of the country and get to know about the scam only during checking in Rishikesh. Singh said that though police provide them all possible assistance, it causes considerable inconvenience to them. The police are inspecting the registrations at checking centres established in Rishikesh to ensure no unregistered pilgrim travels to Char Dham temples. Strict action will be taken against all offenders irrespective of their location across the country. The SIT will dedicatedly investigate such cases and will ensure swift action against culprits, the SSP added.
