BTDT’s heritage and ecology summer camp concludes

In latest news from Doon, the heritage and ecology summer camp organised by Dehradun-based group Been There Doon That (BTDT) concluded recently in the city. Focused on the history, ecology and heritage of the Doon Valley, several participants, including students from various schools, attended.
The participants were taught the concept of heritage and universal values. Also, they were also shown a few films on themes like the culinary heritage of Dehradun as well as the cultural heritage of the Ganga. These sessions were conducted by anthropologist Lokesh Ohri and researcher Ghanshyam Rai.
The participants were also taken on several field trips to expose them to the environment of the Doon Valley. They did bird watching at the trail to Shikhar Fall and learnt the scientific history of Doon at the Ranger’s College. They also trekked upto Landour to understand the biodiversity and landscape of the region and how one can conserve them.
On the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, the group visited the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology to understand the geological details of Uttarakhand and what can one do to conserve the geologically sensitive Himalayan ranges.
