CM acts tough after forest fire kills four, senior officials suspended

Following the death of four Forest personnel in a forest fire in Almora, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered the suspension of senior officials. On Dhami’s directions, the four critically injured personnel were airlifted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. On Thursday, the CM had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the bereaved families of the four personnel who died while tackling the forest fire.

Apart from focusing on the bereaved families and the condition of the injured, the CM ordered that chief conservator of forests (Kumaon) PL Patro will be attached with immediate effect to the office of the head of forest force (HoFF) in Dehradun.  Northern Kumaon (Almora) conservator of forests Koko Rose, Almora Civil Soyam divisional forest officer in-charge Dhruv Singh Martoliya have been suspended with immediate effect.

In an informal interaction with the media at the secretariat, Dhami expressed deep grief at the incident while stating that the government will ensure the best possible treatment for the injured. The CM said that he had clarified to officials in the past that they should discharge their responsibilities properly and that any carelessness will not be tolerated. The officials concerned have been directed repeatedly to become active in the field, he said.
