Himalayan hospital raises awareness on World Blood Donor Day

The Himalayan Hospital organised an awareness programme on World Blood Donor Day on Friday. As part of the programme, the hospital organised a blood donation camp in New Tehri and collected 100 units of blood.
Speaking on the occasion, head of the hospital’s blood centre Dushyant Singh Gaur emphasised the importance of blood donation, highlighting that there is no substitute for blood. He mentioned that World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year on June 14 to raise awareness about blood donation. In India, there is a need for one crore units of blood every year, he said.
The event coordinator and department associate Dr Manish Raturi emphasised the importance of this year’s theme, ‘Celebrating 20 years of blood donation’ and highlighted the impact of blood donation in saving lives. He stressed that without blood donations, there would be no way to replenish the blood supply. Additionally, MBBS students raised awareness about the importance and benefits of blood donation through a street play during the programme.
