SRRA identifies 5,428 water bodies for rejuvenation in U’khand

The first meeting of the State Level Execution Committee (SLEC) of the newly set up Spring and River Rejuvenation Authority (SRRA) was organised at the State secretariat on Monday. The Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Anand Bardhan chaired the meeting.  He said that the water bodies, rivers and streams which are drying up should be earmarked and corrective measures should start without delay. He directed that all the departments concerned should work in coordination to fulfil the objectives of SRRA. The ACS said that before sending the proposals to SLEC for clearance, observations and comments from the departments concerned should be taken.

He said that a mechanism for evaluation of the projects should be prepared and dedicated staff for monitoring of the projects should be deployed.

 He directed that categorisation of the projects undertaken by the authority at State and district levels should be done and yearly targets should be fixed. The ACS said that the annual working plan for the ongoing financial year should be prepared within a month. In the meeting the ACS underscored the need for public awareness for the success of the project.

The ACS said that the public participation should be ensured in rain water harvesting and rejuvenation of rivers and streams. He directed that the budget to the districts for the projects should be allotted in time and a calendar for execution for the projects should be prepared.

In the meeting the committee selected five rivers of the State, Song (Dehradun- Tehri), Eastern and Western Nayar ( Pauri), Shipra ( Nainital) and Gaudi ( Champawat) for long term treatment in the first phase.

 The Additional CEO of SRRA, Neena Grewal said that a water conservation campaign is being organised in the State from April to August 2024. She informed that so far 5,428 water bodies have been identified for treatment under SRRA.
