A woman and her two nieces died after a car driven by a block development officer ran over them at Bauradi in the Tehri district on Monday evening. The official was taken into custody by the police. While the woman died on the spot, the two girls succumbed to injury during treatment. The locals gathered in the local police station to seek strict action against the guilty driver.
A woman and her two nieces were on an evening walk when Jakhnidhar block development officer DP Chamoli was driving on the road. Going by the video clip of the incident, the official was driving at a considerable speed and not actually on the left side of the road. Bauradi resident Rani Negi (36) and her two nieces Agrima (10) and Anvita (7) were on an evening walk on the Nagar Palika Road. At about 7 PM, a
vehicle being driven at considerable speed hit the woman and ran over the girls. Block development officer DP Chamoli was reportedly driving the vehicle. The video clip of the incident shows the woman being thrown far away by the impact of the hit after which the vehicle reportedly ran over the kids. The woman died on the spot. The two seriously injured girls were taken to the district hospital for treatment, where they were declared dead by the doctors. During this episode a large number of local residents arrived at the hospital to enquire about the condition of the seriously injured girls. According to the police, the block development officer was detained and will be presented in the court soon.
