SSP suspends SHO after audio clip goes viral

Saturday, 29 JUNE 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The senior superintendent of Udham Singh Nagar Manjunath TC suspended the station house officer of Pantnagar police station Rajendra Singh Dangi after his audio clip with a 20-year-old woman went viral on Friday. As per the audio, Dangi allegedly made advances towards a young woman and was pestering her to meet him alone. According to the officials, there was a dispute between two families in the Pantnagar police station area, in which the police sent a man and his daughter to jail. The second daughter of the man reportedly approached the police multiple times seeking proper action in the case. During this time, she came in contact with the SHO who reportedly started making advances towards her rather than acting on her complaints. He started having obscene conversations with the young woman, as per the claims. The woman then recorded the conversation with the SHO and sent it to the Kiccha MLA Tilak Raj Behar with a complaint. The MLA met the director general of police Abhinav Kumar in Dehradun and demanded action against SHO Dangi. The SSP later suspended the SHO on Friday. The additional director general (ADG) of police AP Anshuman said that the SHO was suspended and the SSP has been directed to investigate all the charges against him. He said that DGP has also appointed the deputy inspector general (Crime, Law and Order) P Renuka Devi to monitor the case. Besides this, the district police have also been directed to take appropriate action against the complainant’s case which involves her father and sister. If all charges levelled by the woman against the SHO turn out to be true during the investigation, the police will take strict action against him, the ADG added. Besides this, the Kiccha MLA also expressed his anger over the negligence of the police in the matter. During his interaction with media persons in Rudrapur on Friday, he said that crimes against women are consistently increasing in the State and no concrete action is being taken on the matter. The police decided to take action only because he intervened after the poor woman approached him with the complaint, he said. In response to claims that the viral audio clip only represents a partial conversation between the SHO and the woman and that the full picture could be entirely different, the MLA emphasised the importance of a police investigation. He stated that the police must thoroughly investigate the audio and other aspects of the case to ensure that strict action can be taken against the guilty party. He also added that he would organise a state-wide protest if the authorities fail to address this issue and take appropriate action.
