Rawat directs enhanced functioning of cooperative banks in U’khand

The State cooperative minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the functioning of cooperative banks must be further enhanced while presiding over a review meeting which was recently held with the registrar, cooperative;the chief development officers (CDO); general managers and top bank officials via video conferencing. 

During the review meeting, Rawat stressed on the need to launch a rapid recovery campaign focusing on the biggest 20 dues. This targeted approach is aimed at addressing the issue of Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) and ensuring the financial stability of cooperative banks in the State, he said. He further highlighted the importance of adopting technology to enhance the operation of cooperative banks.

Rawat also instructed the CDOs (administration) of every district to focus on revamping these banks in terms of infrastructure and technology to take on more pressure in the coming days.

Invoking the Union Cooperative Minister Amit Shah, he said that more and more government accounts should be opened in cooperative banks and for this, CDOs and the bank officers must work diligently.

Lauding 33 per cent reservation for women in the board of directors of cooperative societies and banks as a historic decision of the State government, the minister directed all concerned to publicise this historic step by putting up hoardings in every cooperative society and cooperative bank branch.

Further during the meeting, the general manager of Garhwal Cooperative Bank Sanjay Rawat apprised the cooperative minister of the actions being taken against 20 big NPA defaulters. The bank is going to take possession of the land and property of eight such defaulters, he told the minister.

The general managers of the cooperative banks in Dehradun and Udham Singh Nagar told the minister that NPA of Rs 25 crore each has been recovered.

Many other cooperative bank officials also shared information regarding their respective banks’ functioning with the cooperative minister.
