Godiyal corners MPs for failing to raise U’khand’s issues in parliament

Former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal questioned Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members from Uttarakhand for failing to raise the issues of the State in the parliament. He said that the State has five LS MPs and three RS MPs and all of them belong to the ruling BJP.

The Congress leader said that it is very disturbing for the people of the State that none of these eight MPs raised any relevant issue of Uttarakhand in the recent session of the parliament. He said that all the recruitment examinations in Uttarakhand are affected by scams and mafia but the issue was not raised in the parliament. Godiyal added that no MP cared to raise the issue of Agnipath scheme which has snatched away employment from the youth of the State. He said that the Ankita Bhandari murder case and injustice to her family was also not raised by the MPs from Uttarakhand which is unfortunate.

The Congress leader who had unsuccessfully contested the recent LS election from Garhwal constituency said that it appears that some people are taking pride in the fact that all the eight MPs from the State belong to one party. “In recent times the ruling BJP has evolved a strategy in which it links development with the victory of ruling party candidates. It is not a good sign for democracy. Had there been a couple of MPs of the opposition, they would have raised the real issues of Uttarakhand in parliament,’’ he said.

The Congress leader appealed to the voters of Badrinath to not give their vote to someone who has betrayed their mandate. He expressed confidence that the voters of Badrinath will give a new direction to the politics of the State by electing Congress candidate Lakhpat Butola in the Assembly by-election.
