Suman directs swift action to manage disasters, tells DDMOs to promptly deny fake social media posts

The Disaster Management and Rehabilitation secretary Vinod Kumar Suman chaired a meeting at the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) control room to review the condition in the districts amidst the heavy to very heavy rain warning issued by the meteorological centre on Sunday. In addition to directing officials to remain alert and prepared to prevent any disaster and ensure swift relief in case of such emergencies, he also directed the District Disaster Management Officers (DDMOs) to swiftly deny fake posts on disasters being shared by some people on social media.
Suman told officials about information being received about misleading and fake posts on social media about various disasters. Some elements are sharing old videos and photographs while claiming these to be the latest. He directed officials to swiftly deny such posts to prevent fear in the public. The secretary directed all the DDMOs to remain alert and keep an eye on the situation. Regarding national highways, State highways and rural roads, he directed officials to ensure that any blocked road is reopened at the earliest to prevent inconvenience to the public. Seeking information about the level of water in the rivers, he directed officials to ensure that in case the level of water rises in the rivers, those at risk are shifted to safer locations and that the public is alerted to stay away from rivers and nalas. Suman directed officials of all the districts to ensure that there is no delay in providing relief amounts to disaster affected people. He directed officials to submit a report on the relief amount distributed since June 15 and the number of pending cases. Further, to ensure undisrupted internet service in all the district control rooms, he told the DDMOs to not rely on only one network but use internet networks of other companies too to have an alternative in case of disruption in connectivity.
