One dead, four injured in road accident in Chamoli

One woman died, three persons sustained serious injuries and one was injured after the car they were travelling in fell into a gorge in Adibadri area of Chamoli district late on Saturday. The officials informed that a car going from Karnaprayag towards Adibadri met with an accident near the petrol pump in the Adibadri area. The search and rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was called at the spot soon after the police received information of the accident. The team started the rescue operation along with the local police and disaster management team under difficult conditions. They descended into the 150 metre deep gorge and rescued four people. They were brought to the main road and sent to the hospital for treatment. The officials said that the team also retrieved the body of an old woman. The deceased was identified as Binsari Devi (80). The injured were identified as the driver Mohan Prasad (59) and his wife Usha Devi (51), Vikram Singh Kunwar (56) and Priyanshu Kunwar (20). The officials said that all sustained serious injuries except Priyanshu. They all are admitted to the government hospital in Karnprayag. The officials said that all the victims belong to Gairsain, Chamoli. They were locals who were returning from Roorkee after attending a wedding ceremony, the officials added.
