The police on Sunday conducted a verification drive in Dehradun and challaned over 345 house owners with more than Rs 30.45 lakh for keeping unverified people as tenants. The police also caught two absconding accused during the verification drive. Besides this, the police also found 212 suspicious persons who failed to show any valid documents. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the police started a massive verification drive early on Sunday along with PAC personnel in all police station areas across the district. Despite regular checkings and verification drives, the police found 345 landlords who had kept unverified tenants. The police challaned them under the Police Act and warned them to get the procedure done soon or strict action will be taken against them in future. Besides this, the police also found 212 suspicious persons without any valid documents. They were brought to the respective police stations for questioning out of which, the police imposed 41 persons under the Police Act. Besides this, the police also found two accused during the verification drive in the Patelnagar area who were absconding under the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act. The accused were identified as Rakesh Kumar (40) and Deepak Gupta (44) who will be soon presented in court, the SSP said. The police started a regular verification drive in the past two months considering a rise in criminal activities in most of which outsiders were involved like the Dobhal Chowk shootout case. Singh also stated that the police will continue such drives across the district. He said that the house owners should act responsibly and get their tenants and house helps verified from the police. Keeping unverified strange people at homes can lead to criminal activities which could be prevented with a simple verification process at a police station, he added.
