Stage set for Badrinath by-election polling

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the Chamoli district election commission has made fool-proof arrangements for the free and peaceful polling in the Bardinath Assembly by-election slated on July 10. The district election officer Himanshu Khurana informed that a total of 210 polling personnel had left for their destination on Monday and Tuesday from the sporting stadium in Gopeshwar. While 83 of the polling personnel will return to Gopeshwar the same day the rest 127 will come back the next day. They will deposit the polling materials, including the EVMs, at the strong room at the PG College in Gopeshwar.
While 64.15 percent of the registered voters cast votes during the 2022 Assembly election the polling percentage came down to 57.62 per cent in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
The number of registered voters for the Badrinath Assembly seat is 1, 02,745 out of whom male voters are 52, 485 and female voters are 49, 658. In addition, there are 2566 service voters. Besides, the number of specially abled voters is 990 and that of the octogenarians above the age of 85 years is 734.
