Kedarnath MLA Shaila Rani Rawat passes away

The BJP MLA from Kedarnath assembly constituency Shaila Rani Rawat died late Tuesday night. She was ailing for many days and was on ventilator support for the last few days. During the campaign of the Lok Sabha elections she sustained a fracture in her backbone after falling down the stairs of Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath of Rudraprayag district. Rawat ( 68 years) became MLA for the first time in the year 2012 on the Congress ticket. In the year 2016, she along with eight other rebel MLAs parted ways with the Congress party to dislodge Harish Rawat government. She unsuccessfully contested the 2017 election on BJP ticket but in the year 2022 she won again from Kedarnath assembly.
Her mortal remains were kept in the party office in Dehradun on Wednesday morning where a large number of people including top BJP leaders paid homage to her. The body of Rawat was taken to her native Agastyamuni in Rudrparayag district for cremation.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, cabinet ministers Premchand Agarwal, Dhan Singh Rawat, Rekha Arya, Saurabh Bahuguna, Lok Sabha MP Trivendra Singh Rawat, MLAs Khajan Das, Umesh Sharma Kau, Renu Bisht, Suresh Chauhan and large number of BJP leaders and workers offered floral tributes to Rawat.
The governor lieutenant general ( rtd) Gurmit Singh has expressed grief over the demise of Shaila Rani Rawat. He prayed for the peace of the departed soul and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
CM Dhami said that the death of Rawat is an irreparable loss for the State and BJP. He said that she was always very concerned about the development of her constituency. Dhami added that Rawat used to raise the voice of the neglected people standing last on the social ladder. He said that she will always be remembered for her dedication to public service.
