Block education officer caught red handed while accepting bribe

The Vigilance Establishment of the State on Friday caught the block education officer of Khanpur in Haridwar district Ayazuddin red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a teacher. The officials informed that the accused officer was investigating a complaint that was received against the complainant, a teacher, on the chief minister’s portal. He was allegedly demanding a bribe from the teacher to give him a clean chit in the matter. Considering that the officer can adversely affect the investigation if he will not receive the bribe, the teacher approached the Vigilance with his complaint. The Vigilance formed a trap team to nab the officer and finally caught him red handed while receiving a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant. The officials said that the Vigilance has registered a case against the accused under the relevant sections. After the arrest of the accused, the Vigilance team was searching the residence of the accused and inquiring about his movable and immovable properties at other places till late on Friday. The director of Vigilance, V Murugesan also announced a cash reward for the trap team. He also appealed to the people to call at the toll free helpline number 1064 and Whatsapp helpline number 9456592300 to inform against officers appointed in a government department who demand bribes to discharge their official duties.
