In the first electoral exercise since the Lok Sabha election,   the INDIA bloc has jolted the BJP-led NDA in the 13 assembly bypolls held across seven states on July 10.  As per the latest inputs received, the opposition alliance candidates are ahead of the ruling alliance in as many as 11 seats.

While the Congress won both the assembly seats in Uttarakhand, the TMC is poised to win all the four bypolls held in West Bengal. In Himachal Pradesh, the ruling Congress won two out of three seats where bypolls were held.   The chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s wife Kamlesh Thakur defeated her nearest BJP candidate Hoshyar Singh by over 9,000 votes while Congress’s Hardeep Singh Bawa won from the Nalagarh seat. The BJP has to be satisfied with one seat-Hamirpur.

In Punjab’s Jalandhar West assembly constituency, the ruling AAP nominee Mohinder Bhagat won by over 30,000 votes. Similarly, the opposition bloc constituent DMK won the solitary bypoll held in Tamil Nadu. The JD (U) –a ruling coalition constituent- has reportedly taken an unbeatable lead in Rupauli assembly by-election in Bihar’s Purnea district. In a fiercely contested Amarwada constituency in Madhya Pradesh-knows as the Congress satrap Kamal Nath’s turf, the Congress candidate Dhiren Shah Inaboti  is said to be leading by 5,500 votes over his nearest BJP candidate Kamlesh Shah in the 13th round of counting.
