Bathymetric survey of Nainital Lake commences
Will help solve the lake’s mysteries for future generation

In latest news from Uttarakhand, under the direction of the chief hydrographer, Government of India, a bathymetric survey of Nainital lake is being carried out in collaboration with 5 UK Naval Unit NCC, the only NCC unit of Indian Navy. The purpose of the survey, according to those engaged in the exercise, is to collect accurate information and data about the depth and underwater topography of the fabled lake which are required to make informed decisions regarding its conservation and future management. It is scheduled for a week and for this, state-of-the-art technology is being applied like echo sounders to measure depth, GPS sets to determine the position of key features along the lake shore and collection of lake’s bottom samples.
This survey is being conducted by a separate survey team of hydrographers of Indian Naval Ship INS Sarvekshak led by the Commanding Officer of INS Sarvekshak, who is also an alumnus of DSB Campus Nainital and a cadet of 5 UK Naval NCC. Besides him, the team includes Lieutenant Commander Deepak Bisht and five sailors.
