Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami celebrated the occasion of Guru Purnima with tree plantation along with his mother as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign on Sunday. He said that the mother is the first Guru in a person’s life and considering this, one is fortunate to participate in tree plantation along with his mother.
The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) had organised a tree plantation programme along the Rispana river near Canal Road on Sunday. Dhami participated in the event along with his mother Vishna Devi. The CM said, “The Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed to the people of the nation on World Environment Day to plant one tree in the name of the mother. This has been taken up as a campaign in the State. I exhort all people of Uttarakhand to plant one tree in the name of their mother during this monsoon season.”
The CM further said that an elaborate tree plantation campaign is being undertaken across the State from Harela till August 15. Social organisations, people working in the field of environment and voluntary groups are also being connected with this effort. A Gram Panchayat level tree plantation campaign is being undertaken in the State, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, the MDDA vice chairman Banshidhar Tiwari said that a park will be developed in the coming days on the land where the tree plantation was undertaken on Sunday. The land will be fenced off from all sides in the initial stage so that the saplings are not damaged by animals. He said that along with construction of a walking track, the flora to be planted here will be chosen in a way that also encourages biodiversity. Tiwari also planted a sapling in the name of his mother Savitri Devi on the occasion. Cabinet ministers Ganesh Joshi, Prem Chand Agrawal, former Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ and secretaries R Meenakshi Sundaram and Shailesh Bagauli also planted saplings on the occasion.
