The rescue teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) saved two Kanwadias from drowning near two different Ghats in Haridwar on Monday. The officials informed that rescue teams of SDRF have been deployed at sensitive ghats in Haridwar for the safety of pilgrims during the Kanwar Yatra period.

On the first day of the Yatra on Monday, a Kanwadia lost control at Kangra Ghat in Haridwar and was swept away by the strong current of the Ganga river while collecting holy water. The deployed SDRF personnel and expert divers Ashiq Ali and Shivam noticed the man drowning and safely rescued him. Kanwadia was identified as Pawan Kumar (29), a resident of Rohtak, Haryana. Another incident occurred at Bairagi Camp where a person was being swept away by the river’s current. However, he was safely rescued by the SDRF team members Ramesh Bhatt and Vijay Kharola who were present at the ghat.

The man was identified as Girish Kumar (45). The officials said that though SDRF and authorities concerned have been deployed to help people in critical situations near ghats, everybody must stay cautious during monsoon and avoid going too close to water bodies.
