CM checks impact of heavy rains in State, directs prompt response

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made a surprise visit to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) here on Monday. Checking the impact of rain in various parts of the State, he reiterated that the officials concerned must remain alert round the clock.He directed the Disaster Management department to maintain coordination with all the district magistrates while also keeping a consistent watch on the level of rivers.

During his visit to the SEOC, the CM talked on the phone to the district magistrates of Nainital, Bageshwar, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Pauri and Dehradun to check the status of rain, roads, waterlogging and the supply of drinking water and electricity. He told the DMs to ensure that heavy rain does not disrupt the flow of traffic on the roads. Swift action should be taken to resume traffic in case the roads are blocked. Proper drainage should be facilitated in case of waterlogging, he said. Dhami further directed that in case the level of water in the rivers rises, those living in riverside areas and other vulnerable areas should be made aware of the situation.

He directed the Disaster Management secretary Vinod Kumar Suman to constantly monitor the situation in every district, especially in case of heavy rain. Coordination should be established with the districts so that emergency situations are dealt with more effectively and swiftly. Special focus should be laid on the vulnerable areas of the State and the areas affected by heavy rain and disasters. The CM said that immediate action should be taken on any information about a disaster received from anywhere in the State. The officials should focus on minimising the response time, he added.
