Several roads and homes were inundated in the provisional State capital Dehradun due to heavy rainfall from late Tuesday night till early hours of Wednesday. The rain water entered homes and shops in several areas, mainly those settled near the Rispana River like Shanti Vihar, Bhagat Singh Colony, Nalapani and Aamwala among others. The constant rainfall since night made the Rispana overflow due to which roads and houses of many residential areas were submerged.
The submerged roads remained muddy even after the water receded, creating hazardous conditions for residents. In Shanti Vihar colony of Adhoiwala, a culvert was damaged too, exacerbating the problems of the local residents. The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) also received 30 complaints by evening from affected areas including Bhagat Singh Colony, Nalapani, and Shanti Vihar. The MCD’s quick response team managed to address only half of these complaints by the time this report was filed, according to a disaster control room operator.
The officials said that MCD’s response team is alert 24/7 and continuously working on resolving the remaining issues and restoring normalcy to the affected areas. The teams are also working in coordination with other departments concerned to resolve issues, the officials added.
