Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that a total of 67,189 pregnant women have so far benefited from the Khushiyon Ki Sawari (KKS) programme across the State. Rawat highlighted that individuals are availing the advantages of the State’s strengthened and expanded health services. He emphasised that the KKS scheme, operating under the National Health Mission and financed by the Government of India, exemplifies this commitment. To date 67, 189 pregnant women have been safely transported from various government hospitals to their destinations within the state, out of which 55,833 were assisted in the year 2023-2024, whereas 11,356 women were assisted in the current financial year. Additionally, ultrasound tests have been facilitated for a total of 20,000 pregnant women under KKS, including 13,955 in the previous financial year and 6,299 in the current year.
Rawat further added that 3,176 sick infants were also transported to the hospital under the scheme, comprising 2,821 sick infants in the financial year 2023-24 and 355 sick infants in the current financial year. He highlighted that the KKS scheme has proven to be highly advantageous for women in the mountainous regions. In the past, pregnant women encountered significant challenges in accessing hospitals, but with the KKS scheme, they are receiving substantial aid in reaching hospitals for delivery, ultrasound tests and vaccinations. In light of this success, the KKS scheme reach will soon be expanded throughout the State. Chief medical officers of all districts have been directed to submit requests to the Health Directorate for additional vehicles as needed, he added.
