Five men died in three separate incidents in Dehradun triggered by heavy rainfall in Dehradun and nearby areas. Two men died after they were swept away in a canal in Raipur block late on Wednesday. The officials informed that the police received information about two men drowning in a canal between the Ordnance Factory and a liquor shop in the Raipur area. The police arrived at the scene and recovered one body from the canal. An SBI ATM card bearing the name Sundar Singh was found on the deceased but no other identification documents were retrieved. A search operation was launched by the police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams to locate the second victim. The police team found his body in the canal within the Ordnance Factory premises in the morning. The deceased was identified as Arjun Singh Rana (52), a resident of Raipur. He was employed in DEAL and was returning home after his night shift when the incident occurred. A scooter with the registration number UK07AE5154 was also found at the scene that also helped the police to identify the deceased, the officials said. Besides this, two Delhi residents were also swept away by the river near Sahastradhara parking in Dehradun on Thursday. The officials said that according to local residents, the two men were bathing by the riverbank when they suddenly lost control and were carried away by the strong current. Locals managed to recover the body of one man before the SDRF team’s arrival. However, the body of the second person was found after a rigorous search by the rescue team. The victims have been identified as Indrapal (40) and Bhupendra Singh Rana (43) and both belong to Sultanpur, Delhi. In another incident, a Tehri resident Ashish Kaluda (31) was also swept away in a drain in Selaqui area late on Wednesday. The police found his body on Thursday after an extensive search operation. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh has once again urged the public to exercise caution and avoid bathing in rivers and other water bodies during the monsoon.
