U’Khand general officer assumes command of DGAR

Lieutenant general Vikas Lakhera from Uttarakhand has assumed command of Director General of Assam Rifles (DGAR). Lakhera hails from the Tehri district of Uttarakhand and completed his graduation from DAV PG College Dehradun before joining the Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun. He was commissioned from the 86th Regular Course at the Indian Military Academy into 4 SIKH LI on June 9, 1990, which he later went on to command in lower Assam under Red Horn Division. He is a postgraduate from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and an alumnus of the Higher Defence Management Course. Apart from this, he has also successfully completed the prestigious NDC Course from the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS), London.
It will be recalled that prior to assuming the appointment of DGAR, he was holding the appointment of ADG MO (IW), DGMO, IHQ of MoD (Army). His academic qualifications include an MSc from Madras University, an MA from King’s College, London (UK) and a masters in management studies from Osmania University. In addition to serving across a wide spectrum of terrain profiles and multi-faceted operational areas like Line of Control, International Boundary and North East. General Officer Lakhera has extensive operational experience in planning and conducting counter-terrorism operations in Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and Nagaland.
