Restore Kedarnath Yatra route in 15 days: PWD secretary

On the orders of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami senior officers of State administration conducted a survey of the disaster affected area of Kedarnath. The team comprised Public Works Department (PWD) secretary Pankaj Pandey, Disaster Management secretary Vinod Kumar Suman and Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey.
The team conducted a ground and aerial inspection of the area.The PWD secretary took stock of the damaged roads and directed the officers concerned to prepare a plan on priority basis for the restoration of the washed out sections of the path between Sonprayag and Gaurikund.
He said that efforts should be made to restart the Yatra to Kedarnath in two weeks.
The secretary also directed the officers to prepare the plan and estimate of the necessary reconstruction work immediately and start the work within two to three days.
Pandey and Suman directed the officials to have the road and the bridle path repaired and reconstructed at a fast pace and a separate contractor should be given work on each reconstruction site. They said that both practical and technical aspects should be taken care of in the reconstruction works.
The PWD officers informed that about 15 meters of the path between Ghoda Padao near Gaurikund has been washed out. Similarly a 60 meter section washout in Junglechatti is also affected. The officers also proposed that 10 folding bridges at different places should be set up on different points of Kedarnath Yatra.
The Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey directed that proposals for all reconstruction works should be given on a priority basis.
Rudraprayag district magistrate Saurabh Gaharwar presented a detailed account of the road restoration, relief and rescue works to the team of officers.
