The Sports department has finalised the tender process for selecting companies under the Project Management Unit (PMU) and Games Management System (GMS) for the upcoming 38th National Games scheduled to take place in Uttarakhand this year. The director of the Sports department Jitendra Sonkar informed that for the successful organisation of both international and national events, it is essential to engage companies specialised in PMU and GMS to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. He informed that based on this principle, the department has recently concluded the selection of the company tasked with handling the PMU and GMS aspects of the National Games preparations. Further, he said that the department will promptly convene meetings with the chosen companies to discuss future plans and preparations in order to ensure the successful execution of the National Games in Uttarakhand.

Commenting further about the preparation for the National Games, Sonkar added that 90 per cent of the infrastructural preparations for the upcoming National Games have already been completed by the department. The remaining 10 per cent will be executed during the event in the State. He added that 34 games will be included in the National Games in the State, and the department is considering adding three more games to the list. The final decision on these additional games will be made in consultation with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). These three games will be chosen based on the talent of Uttarakhand and their potential to enhance adventure tourism, he added.

He further added that the IOA is expected to announce the date for the national games soon. He stated that the delay in finalising the date for the National Games in Uttarakhand was primarily due to the Paris Olympics. Sonkar further informed that the State government has recently approved a budget of Rs 250 crore for the National Games. However, it is projected that an amount ranging between Rs 400 to 450 crore will be necessary for the successful organisation of the National Games in Uttarakhand. In consideration of this projected budgetary requirement, the department will resubmit the budget proposal to the state administration.

Notably, Sonkar earlier informed that the duration of the National Games will be 14 days, with an additional two days dedicated to the opening and closing ceremonies. Apart from this, out of 34 games, 16 games are scheduled to be played in Dehradun, he informed.
