Notorious robber Mohit was apprehended following a late-night shootout near Siddheshwar Mahadev Temple in Kankhal, Haridwar on Monday. Mohit, identified as the mastermind behind recent robberies in the Panjanehri village of Kankhal, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the encounter with the police. The officials informed that Mohit and his accomplices had previously executed a robbery at a grocery store in Panjanehri village, threatening the shopkeeper with a firearm. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, which provided crucial evidence for the police investigation. Acting on this footage, the police conducted a routine check and intercepted a suspicious man matching the description of Mohit. When the police asked him to stop, he allegedly tried to flee on a motorcycle at high speed. However, he lost control of the bike and crashed near Siddheshwar temple, the officials said. As the police approached, the accused allegedly fired at them, prompting a return fire that left him injured. He was subsequently admitted to the district hospital, the officials said. The police also recovered a live cartridge and a firearm from Mohit. The officials informed that during interrogation, Mohit confessed to being involved in two recent robberies and disclosed the names of his accomplices. They said that police teams have now intensified their search for these culprits.
