Congress playing politics by spreading lies on gender crimes in State: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party has said that the silent protest by the Congress on the issue of women’s safety is akin to a political mockery of the public. The party’s State president Mahendra Bhatt said that strictest actions are being taken in cases of gender crimes in the State so it is better for the Congress to remain silent. However, it is not proper for the Congress leaders to remain silent on the alleged role of the leaders of their party and coalition partners in gender crimes in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. If they raise their voice with their central leadership, they might be able to get justice for the daughter of their party leader in Karnataka and their spokeswomen from their own government, Bhatt added.

Responding to the media regarding the Congress protest, the BJP State president alleged that the Congress is playing politics by spreading lies and confusion regarding gender crimes in Uttarakhand. “The people are witness to the State government’s zero tolerance for crime with immediate and strict action being taken as soon as information on any crime against women is received. In the Ankita Bhandari case which the Congress often raises, the accused were arrested within 24 hours on chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s directions and the victim’s body was recovered within 48 hours. The Gangster Act was imposed and necessary evidence was collected with the case being fought effectively in court. We are confident that the accused awaiting their sentence will receive the strictest punishment. The court of law and the public have expressed confidence in the investigation in this case but the Congress leaders are repeatedly making this an issue as they lack proper issues to raise. In the case of the nurse allegedly raped and murdered in Rudrapur, the police arrested the accused from Rajasthan. Similarly, those accused in the gangrape of a teenager at ISBT in Dehradun were also swiftly arrested by the police,” Bhatt said.

He said that it is not as if the Congress leaders have not seen the swift and strict action in such cases. However, the opposition is ignoring the government’s sensitivity and seriousness on such issues simply to score political points. “If they really want to raise their voice against gender crimes, they should not remain silent on the Kolkata case in West Bengal, governed by the INDI Alliance partner. They should also publicly protest against involvement of leaders of their coalition partners in cases of gender crimes in Ayodhya and Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress has always been anti-women and has no moral right to speak on gender crimes. However, if they genuinely try, they might be able to ensure punishment to the murdered of the daughter of their own party leader in Karnataka, help in the cases of alleged exploitation of their party’s woman leader in Assam by their young cell’s national president and enable action against the party leaders allegedly responsible for a national spokeswoman of the party being forced to leave the party,” Bhatt added.
