Vigilance arrests ARTO senior assistant in Kotdwar for accepting bribe

A team of the Vigilance Establishment arrested a senior assistant at the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) Mahendra Singh in Kotdwar, Pauri district, on Thursday on charges of taking a bribe of Rs 3,000. The Vigilance was reportedly getting complaints against him regarding corruption charges, the officials said. They informed that Singh had imposed a penalty of Rs 7,000 on a truck driver for violations. When the driver reached the ARTO office to submit the penalty on Thursday, the accused allegedly collected Rs 7,000 from the driver but issued a receipt for only Rs 4,000. The trap team of the Vigilance caught Singh red handed during the raid, the officials said. Following the arrest, the Vigilance team interrogated the accused and also searched his office and residence to gather necessary proofs regarding the corruption charges against him. The team will take further action accordingly in the case, as per the officials. The director of the Vigilance, V Murugesan appreciated the work of trap team. He also appealed to the people to call at the toll free helpline number 1064 and Whatsapp helpline number 9456592300 to complain against corrupt officers in any government department, stating that the Vigilance will take strict action against them.
