The sanitation workers of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) boycotted work demanding action against college students who allegedly assaulted sanitation inspectors of the corporation on Saturday. Stating this, the chief municipal health officer Dr Avinash Khanna informed that the incident occurred on Saturday morning when sanitation inspector Vishwanath and chief inspector Amit were performing their duties near Patelnagar in Dehradun. They noticed that some college students were littering the streets by dumping garbage. Upon being advised by the MCD sanitation inspectors to stop littering, the college students reportedly refused to comply, leading to a verbal altercation with the municipal staff.
Khanna further claimed that during the altercation the college students became restless and assaulted the MCD inspectors. Consequently, they sustained injuries and sought medical attention. In light of this, the MCD sanitation workers have boycotted the work until the authorities take decisive action against the college students involved in the assault on the sanitation inspectors. He informed that an average of 2,000 sanitation workers have joined the work boycott. Additionally, they have declared their intention to persist with the boycott until the filing of an FIR and subsequent arrest of the college students by the police in connection with the incident, he said.
