GDMC seeks SSP to raise manpower at police post in hospital

Sunday, 25 AUGUST 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Taking the cognisance of the security within the premises, the administration of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital has formally requested the Dehradun senior superintendent of police, Ajai Singh, to increase the manpower at the police post situated in the hospital compound. This request comes in light of the nationwide protests by PG doctors following the recent tragic rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata.

Informing about this, the medical superintendent at the GDMC hospital, Dr Anurag Aggarwal informed that Dehradun police recently issued standard operating procedure for safety and security in government hospitals. In response to this, the hospital administration organised a meeting at the hospital level with relevant officials. Various measures were discussed and decided upon during the meeting to bolster the safety and security of the hospital staff within the premises. Aggarwal stated that the necessary steps have been taken considering which they instructed the designated officials to inspect the operations of the CCTV positioned within the premises. He added that if any area within the hospital is identified as having non-operational CCTV, new cameras will be promptly installed in those locations. Further, the recent visit by the SSP of Dehradun to the hospital prompted the administrative team to request an increase in staff at the police outpost situated on the hospital premises. He informed that the SSP has given assurance that the police personnel at the hospital outpost will be augmented by eight officers.

Aggarwal further added that while the hospital has expanded over time, the staff numbers remain stagnant. The absence of adequate security personnel at the hospital has previously posed challenges in crowd management. Consequently, a proposal has been submitted to the state administration for the recruitment of 100 security guards at the hospital.

Aggarwal stated that as of now, they have successfully reassigned an adequate number of security guards to the hospital premises, where security plays a crucial role in crowd management and incident control. Additionally, he confirmed that the hospital administration has instructed officials to install additional lighting like electric bulbs, in areas of the hospital that are dimly lit. He further highlighted that the hospital administration will persist in monitoring security and safety concerns at the hospital in the future.
