Says, the allegation of destabilising govt sans evidence baseless
The State president of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party Mahendra Bhatt said that the party will investigate the claims made by Independent MLA Umesh Kumar regarding the Gupta brothers’ alleged attempts to destabilise the government, only if Kumar provides the necessary evidence. Without concrete evidence, the BJP considers the allegations to be baseless and an attempt to seek attention in the Assembly with the aim to create unrest in the State, he said.
During the recent monsoon session of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha held in Bharadisain, Gairsain, Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar alleged that the Gupta brothers are trying to destabilise the government by spending a significant sum of money of around Rs 500 crore. He also raised questions about the security provided to the Gupta brothers, asking whose directive led to the Gupta brothers receiving Y and Z category security in 2016 and 2018 during the tenure of the then chief ministers Harish Rawat and Trivendra Singh Rawat respectively.
However, Bhatt dismissed allegations of destabilising the government calling them baseless. He said that the narrative lacks any truth and is merely an attempt by Kumar to stir controversy. “Our party has a stable and strong government that is continuously working for the welfare of people. We will only take this matter seriously if substantiated evidence is presented to us,” he added.
On Harish Rawat’s recent claim that Gairsain would have been made the permanent capital if his tenure as CM had not been disrupted by Congress leaders who later defected to BJP, Bhatt stated that the Congress had enough time to declare Gairsain as the permanent capital but failed to take action. “Rawat is making claims about what he could have done, but neither he nor his party took any real steps,” he said. He highlighted that under the BJP-led government, Gairsain has been declared the summer capital and development work is underway there. He stated that the BJP is focused on Uttarakhand’s development, whereas the Congress has little to show for its contributions. “Rawat’s statements are aimed at gaining public attention. The Congress has no significant achievements regarding the development of the State,” Bhatt added.
